CLERMONT – Lake County Schools Superintendent Diane Kornegay surprised Reshonda Scott of East Ridge High School on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, to tell her she had been named the district’s Assistant Principal of the Year. Her next stop was Treadway Elementary, where she announced Dr. Venessa King as Principal of the Year.
King began her career with the district in 2013 as a fourth-grade teacher at Clermont Elementary. She was promoted to assistant principal at Treadway in 2015 and was named principal in 2019. Under her leadership, Treadway improved from a C grade to its current A grade from the Florida Department of Education in just one year.
“It is a privilege to have a principal who is as wonderfully dynamic and committed as Dr. Venessa King,” said Renee Dudley, executive director of Region 2, which includes Treadway. “She leads with a contagious energy that inspires not only the teachers, but every student in the school. This creates a warm, welcoming environment where students feel genuinely seen and valued.”
As the district’s Principal of the Year, King can now enter the statewide competition for the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership, which honors principals who have spearheaded initiatives to increase student performance, promote safe learning environments, and establish partnerships with community parents and community members.
Scott also joined the district in 2013. She started as a language arts teacher at Windy Hill Middle, was promoted to assistant principal there in 2018, and transferred to East Ridge High in 2022.
“Mrs. Scott has a special gift. Her calm, thoughtful nature makes everyone around her feel supported and valued,” East Ridge High School Principal Julie Robinson-Lueallen said. “She always takes the time to think through what’s best for students and teachers, bringing out the very best in each of us. Her steady leadership and compassion make her an exceptional administrator who truly leads with heart. Our school is brighter because of her, and we’re so proud to celebrate her as Assistant Principal of the Year!”
As the district's Assistant Principal of the Year, Scott can now compete for the statewide Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award, which honors assistant principals who have utilized teamwork and leadership skills to enhance student performance, promote safe learning environments, and establish partnerships with parents and community members.
